CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding Secures EBE’s First Chinese Order for 210,000 DWT Ammonia-Ready Bulk Carriers

On October 31, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Beihai Shipbuiding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), successfully signed a contract with Belgian shipping company EBE for the construction of 2+1 210,000 DWT ammonia-ready bulk carriers. This marks EBE’s first shipbuilding order placed in China, reflecting the international market’s high recognition of CSSC Beihai Shipbuiding’s shipbuilding capabilities.

Basile Aloy, CEO of EBE Company, Yin Haijun, Assistant General Manager of Beihai Shipbuiding, and Huang Chongyang, Deputy General Manager of the Second Department of Ship and Marine Business at CSTC, jointly signed the construction contract.

The 210,000 DWT ammonia-ready bulk carrier contracted is a green, energy-efficient vessel type independently developed by China Ship Design & Research Center Co., Ltd (CSDC). It features an overall length of 300.00 meters, a beam of 50.00 meters and a structural draft of 18.40 meters.

The vessel meets the highest standards of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements and incorporates a pre-engineered design for ammonia fuel. This lays the technical groundwork for future installation of ammonia-fueled main engines to achieve zero-carbon navigation.

Demonstrating outstanding performance in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, this vessel is poised to facilitate a transition to ammonia-fueled propulsion throughout its lifecycle, thereby advancing the green transformation of the shipping industry.

EBE, a shipping company specializing in international dry bulk transportation, has long provided reliable services to major global charterers. This investment in new vessels not only demonstrates its forward-looking approach to clean energy ships but also underscores its strategic commitment to sustainable development.
