Samsung Heavy Industries announced on September 29 that it has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swan Defence and Heavy Industries, a shipyard located in northwest India, to cooperate on shipbuilding and marine projects.
Swan Shipyard is equipped with India’s largest dry dock capable of constructing ultra-large crude carriers (VLCC) and other offshore facilities. This makes it a strategic partner for expanding Samsung Heavy Industries’ presence in India’s maritime sector.
Under the agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries will explore collaboration opportunities in new ship design, procurement, and production management (EPM: Engineering, Procurement, Management), as well as in offshore marine projects.
This partnership aims to establish a production foothold in India and gradually expand its business operations in the region.
Last year, Samsung Heavy Industries successfully established strategic alliances with China’s PAX Ocean in July and the US-based Vigor Marine Group in August, further reinforcing its global footprint.
Namgoong Keun-sung, Head of Production Support at Samsung Heavy Industries, stated, “This collaboration, which combines technology and market expertise, is the best model for a win-win relationship for both companies.”
