NJTC Board Approves $188 Million Investment to Build Two Panamax Tankers

On September 25, Nanjing Tanker Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “NJTC”) issued the “Resolution Announcement of the 13th Meeting of the 11th Board of Directors.” The meeting approved the “Proposal on the Construction of Two 65,000 DWT PANAMAX Tankers” and the “Proposal on the Construction of a 9,500-cubic-meter LEG Carrier.”

The announcement disclosed that the NJTC board of directors agreed to invest no more than RMB 976.06 million (including tax, approximately US$137 million) to build two 65,000 DWT PANAMAX tankers at the non-affiliated Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “DSIC”). The new vessels are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2028.

Meanwhile, NJTC’s subsidiary Shanghai Changshi Shipping will build a new 9,500 cubic meter LEG carrier from its affiliated company China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng at a price of RMB 365 million (including tax, approximately US$51 million). The LEG carrier is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2028.

NJTC stated that the above orders are intended to optimize the company’s crude oil fleet capacity structure, enhance fleet operational capabilities, strengthen the company’s competitiveness in the crude oil transportation market, and further bolster its sustainable development capacity. The projects are expected to have a positive impact on the company’s financial position and operating results.

According to its official website, NJTC is a specialized tanker transportation company under China Merchants Group and a key backbone enterprise engaged in river-sea combined transport under China Yangtze Shipping Group. Established in 1993 and listed on the A-share market in 1997, the company is headquartered in Nanjing. Currently, NJTC owns and controls a fleet of 73 vessels with a total deadweight capacity of 2.78 million tons, achieving an annual transportation capacity exceeding 44 million tons.
