On September 22, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, held the launching ceremony for a methanol dual-fuel intelligent VLCC ordered by China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), completing the milestone ahead of schedule.
It is understood that the vessel is the eighth-generation VLCC ship type independently developed by DSIC, with a total length of about 333 meters and a beam of 60 meters, and can carry about 2.1 million barrels of crude oil.
This VLCC adheres to the design concept of “green, environmentally friendly, intelligent and safe”, adopts methanol dual-fuel main engine and is equipped with main engine EGR, generator SCR denitrification equipment and open desulfurization washing tower equipment, fully meeting the latest environmental emission standards and maximizing energy efficiency and economy.
Additionally, the vessel incorporates the latest hull design for enhanced overall performance. By integrating intelligent systems—including smart energy efficiency, smart liquid cargo handling, smart operations and maintenance, and smart ship-based platforms—it further improves operational efficiency and safety.
During the construction of the vessel, DSIC, through scientific planning and efficient execution, completed the load testing of the emergency generator during the general assembly phase and the methanol tank strength test during the half-hull floating phase.
Prior to launching, the shipyard successfully carried out a series of key tasks, including the commissioning and handover of the air compressors, load testing of the generators, boiler ignition, lighting installation on the superstructure, activation of signal lights, and special coating of the methanol tanks. These efforts have laid a solid foundation for the full-scale commissioning work in the launching phase.
