On September 19, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding held a keel-laying ceremony in its Longxue base for the first 48,000 m³ LPG carrier built for Greece’s BENELUX company. This vessel is the largest-tonnage medium-sized LPG carrier in southern China, marking the project’s official entry into the fast lane of rhythmic production.
The vessel has an overall length of 190 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, and a draft of 19 meters. It features three independent, fully refrigerated Type A liquid cargo tanks. Constructed from cryogenic carbon-manganese steel, the total cargo capacity reaches 48,000 cubic meters.
In addition to carrying a variety of petrochemical cargoes such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), the vessel is also capable of transporting liquid ammonia and cargo exchange. Its design meets the International Maritime Organization’s TIER-III emission standards, demonstrating leading environmental performance.
To meet the construction demands for gas carriers, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding’s Longxue facility is undergoing upgrades to become a dedicated gas carrier production line.
As the largest medium-sized gas carrier ever built in South China, this keel laying is not only a core milestone in the construction of a single vessel, but also marks a new stage in the mass production of Huangpu Wenchong gas carriers with efficient and rhythmic production, injecting strong impetus into the company’s high-quality development.
