HD Hyundai Samho Forges AI Robotics Alliance to Automate Future Shipyard Operations

HD Hyundai Samho is speeding up the construction of future shipyards through the development of artificial intelligence (AI)-based humanoid robots and logistics automation technology.

HD Hyundai Samho signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG CNS and HD Hyundai Robotics on the 15th to develop humanoid and logistics automation technology for safe process operation and efficiency. The main contents of the agreement are the development of humanoids that can be applied to various production activities such as measurement, molding, and control other than welding the establishment of a shipyard logistics automation system through the development of autonomous mobile robots.

HD Hyundai Samho is in charge of securing manufacturing data and creating on-site infrastructure, while LG CNS is in charge of establishing and operating an AI and data convergence platform for the shipbuilding industry. HD Hyundai Robotics develops and provides specialized AI motion control technology for each process, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering develops and supports various manufacturing technologies such as robots, simulations, and welding.

HD Hyundai Samho expects that it will be able to secure the safety of field workers and overcome productivity limitations at the same time by realizing the automation of complex welding, assembly, design, and inspection processes.

Since the launch of the Automation Innovation Center in 2022, HD Hyundai Samho has been actively promoting the introduction of cooperative robots and underwater ship cleaning robots. It also plans to make efforts to build future shipyards by replacing high-risk work and improving productivity.
