China Merchants Industry Qingdao Shipyard Cut Steel for Two 82,000 DWT Bulk Carriers

On September 16, China Merchants Industry Qingdao Shipyard held a steel cutting ceremony for two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers, marking the start of full-scale construction for both vessels.

It is understood that the two vessels breaking ground in this batch are the 18th and 13th in the series, with the respective shipowners being Greece’s Star Bulk and Sea Trader. Notably, the 13th vessel also marks Sea Trader’s first vessel under its order with the company.

Following the commencement of this new vessels’ construction, China Merchants Industry Qingdao Shipyard will further deepen its lean production philosophy. By strengthening process control and resource allocation, improving production organization and process optimization, it will promote further compression of construction period and continuous improvement of construction quality, continuously consolidate the competitive advantage of this vessel type in the international bulk carrier market, and lay a solid foundation for the company to make a full sprint for its fourth quarter production target.
