Wuchang Shipbuilding Commences Construction of 25,900 DWT Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker for SC Shipping (Shanghai)

On August 29, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group (hereinafter referred to as “WS”) successfully kicked off construction of a 25,900 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker for SC Shipping (Shanghai).

The 25,900 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker has an overall length of 158.98 meters, a beam of 27 meters, a designed draft of 9.5 meters and a cruising range of 18,000 nautical miles at a speed of 14 knots and unlimited navigation. It is primarily used for transporting chemicals and refined oil products.

The vessel is powered by a low-speed diesel engine and equipped with a high-pressure SCR system, meeting the latest International Maritime Organization Tier III NOx emission requirements. The vessel boasts low energy consumption, high cargo capacity and a high level of intelligence. It also features a methanol-ready design, laying the foundation for future green ship transformation.

As an upgraded version of this series, this vessel has been optimized and upgraded in many aspects. The cargo hold dividers have been carefully adjusted, and a secondary heating system and hot oil coil cleaning system have been added to better meet the shipowner’s actual operational needs and habits. The superstructure layout has been redesigned to fully reflect the humanistic design concept, providing more convenient conditions for crew training, team building, and other activities. Furthermore, the installation of vortex-reducing fins and energy-saving ducts has significantly increased the ship’s speed. The optimized exhaust gas utilization plan can effectively reduce operational fuel consumption, contributing to the development of green shipping.

It is understood that as an upgraded version of this series, the vessel has achieved optimized upgrades in multiple aspects. The cargo hold separation has been carefully adjusted, with the addition of a secondary heating system and a hot oil coil cleaning system, which are more in line with the actual operational needs and habits of the shipowner. The layout of the superstructure rooms has been replanned, fully embodying the humanized design concept and providing more convenient conditions for crew training, team building and other activities. Meanwhile, by installing vortex reducing fins and energy-saving ducts, its speed has been significantly increased. The exhaust gas utilization scheme has been optimized, which can effectively reduce operational fuel consumption and contribute to the development of green shipping.

At present, the 25,900 DWT chemical tanker series of SC Shipping (Shanghai) is advancing in an orderly manner. Among them, the first vessel is is currently being installed on the slipway, with the main hull already completed. Vessels 2 to 5 are in the advanced manufacturing stage. The design team has thoroughly summarized the design and construction experience of Vessels 1 to 5, focusing on improving the outfitting rate of sections, reducing the specifications of outfitting parts, and optimizing the manufacturability of drawings. These efforts continuously enhance the overall quality of the products, laying a solid foundation for the construction of subsequent vessels with more mature technologies and processes.

SC Shipping (Shanghai) operates nearly 80 chemical tankers ranging from 3,000 to 40,000 deadweight tons (DWT). These vessels have passed TMSA audits from renowned companies such as BASF, Shell, and XOM, SIRE inspections from major oil companies such as Shell and BP, and inspections by the Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI). SC Shipping (Shanghai) holds a leading position in the global waterborne transport of fine liquid chemicals, including PMDI, TDI, HMD, and PO.
