NJTC Orders Three Methanol-Ready Chemical Tankers at China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard

On March 4, Nanjing Tanker Corporation (NJTC) issued an announcement regarding a related-party transaction involving the construction of three new 6,600 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers.

The announcement disclosed that Nanjing Yangyang Chemicals Transport & Trade Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of NJTC, has contracted to build three 6,600 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers at the China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard for a total contract value of RMB 492 million (including tax, approximately US$71 million). Delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2028.

China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard is affiliated with China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Limited (“China Merchants Shipbuilding”), and is also affiliated with China Merchants Group Limited (“China Merchants Group”) along with NJTC. Therefore, this transaction constitutes a related-party transaction.

According to the announcement, the three chemical tankers were designed and built in accordance with the classification society’s “Green Ecological Ships Standard”, the latest emission standards issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and domestic competent authorities, selected new energy-saving equipment and technologies, adopted conventional fuel main engines and had a reserved design for methanol dual fuel, and meet the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) requirements for Phase III standards.

According to official information, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard is affiliated with China Merchants Industry Group, the nation’s second-largest shipbuilding and repair enterprise, and serves as one of the group’s seven major shipbuilding and repair bases.

It is understood that China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard specializes in in-depth research and practical application of liquid carrier construction technology. The shipbuilder has achieved multiple breakthroughs in the small-to-medium-sized liquid carrier sector, with six ship types to date filling gaps in China’s shipbuilding industry.

To date, it has delivered nearly 100 chemical tankers and gas carriers of various types. The shipyard holds the world’s largest order backlog for small-to-medium-sized chemical tankers and ranks first globally in cumulative deliveries over the past decade.
