Mibau Stema Orders Two Self-unloading Bulk Carriers from CSSC Chengxi Shipyard

Denmark’s Mibau Stema Group has signed a contract with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard to build two new self-unloading bulk carriers, with delivery expected to begin in September 2028. The new vessels will be biofuel-capable and feature a methanol-ready design.

This order, jointly made possible by the Hartmann family of Germany and Canadian Shipping Limited (CSL), is a key component of Mibau Stema’s strategic objectives. It aims to enhance transport capacity, increase operational flexibility, and transition toward more sustainable shipping practices.

Currently, Mibau Stema operates a fleet of seven modern bulk carriers serving over 40 ports across the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions. Upon delivery of two newbulid vessels, the group will further enhance its fleet’s transport capacity and strengthen operational flexibility within its trade network.

According to reports, Mibau Stema is a joint venture established by Heidelberg Materials (formerly Heidelberg Cement) and the Hartmann family.

CSL and the Hartmann family have maintained a long-standing partnership with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard. Their joint venture shipping company, Candeu, has previously commissioned CSSC Chengxi Shipyard to build two 40,700 DWT self-unloading vessels, which are operated by Mibau Stema under a long-term time charter agreement.

Notably, this order for two new self-unloading bulk carriers represent the first new shipbuilding orders announced by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard this year. The company’s previous order announcement on December 28 last year involved the construction of two 82,600 DWT bulk carriers for Hebei Xinyang Shipping.
