Ningbo Ocean Shipping announced the results of the bidding for the construction of four 4,300 TEU container ships: CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was awarded the contract. This is the second new shipbuilding project between the two parties this year.
On June 19, Ningbo COSCO Shipping announced that it or its subsidiaries intend to invest no more than RMB 2 billion (approximately US$278 million) in the construction of four 4,300 TEU container ships. The funding for this investment will include, but is not limited to, the company’s own funds and self-raised funds.
As the largest container liner shipping company in Zhejiang Province, Ningbo Ocean Shipping has disclosed two new ship investment plans this year, totaling the purchase of eight feeder container ships of two types, all of which will be constructed by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, with a total investment exceeding RMB 3 billion (approximately US$418 million). The remaining four ships are 2,700 TEU container ships, each costing approximately RMB 324 million (approximately US$45 million). The shipbuilder was selected through a competitive bidding process, with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding ultimately winning the contract.
Ningbo Ocean Shipping stated that this investment in shipbuilding will help further optimize the company’s fleet structure, expand the fleet scale, actively build a high-standard fleet with a reasonable structure and strong competitiveness, continuously strengthen the company’s route service capabilities, and continuously enhance the company’s market competitiveness.
Public information indicates that Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the core port of Ningbo COSCO Shipping, is an important container ocean-going trunk port in mainland China, and a key domestic iron ore and crude oil transshipment base. With Ningbo Zhoushan Port as its core, the company has built a route system covering near-sea, trans-ocean, coastal, and river routes, with routes covering 49 major ports at home and abroad.
