On August 14, the 16th 50,000 DWT MR product oil/chemical tanker built by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard (a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) for Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited successfully was launched.
This marks the successful first completion of the first project for building product oil/chemical tankers under the “Block Erection + Dock Assembly” method on the company’s Shipbuilding Line 2.
The vessel is the main ship type of the 50,000 DWT oil and chemical tanker “Hongyun” series independently developed by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard. It has excellent performance, superior cargo adaptability and flexibility, with a liquid cargo tank capacity of 53,500 cubic meters.
As a new ship type built on Shipbuilding Line 2, the ship is divided into seven main blocks. The liquid cargo hold deck and pipe units are independently hoisted, and the deck area is densely covered with pipelines, doubling the amount of work and significantly increasing the difficulty of construction compared to the 82,000 DWT bulk carrier.
At present, the structural works for the vessel’s launch have been basically completed, and the pre-sanding project for the liquid cargo tanks is about to commence. This has laid a solid foundation for subsequent works and struck the opening note for the high-quality delivery of the “Hongyun” series.
On August 15, the first engine room block of the 17th 50,000 DWT MR oil/chemical tanker, weighing 1,493 tons, was safely lifted into the dock. This set a new record for the heaviest lift by the 1,600-ton large floating crane, marking the start of a new journey for the fifth batch of dry dock assembly for the 2025 shipbuilding project on Line 2.
