In the first half of this year, Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD), a joint venture enterprise of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding under CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation), completed the repair of 194 vessels, delivering an average of 1.07 vessels per day and seeing a year-on-year increase of over 60% in business orders. This has set a new record for the best performance in the same period since the company’s establishment 30 years ago.
This achievement not only demonstrates the comprehensive strength and unlimited potential of Huarun Dadong Dockyard as a globally renowned ship repair base but also writes a new chapter in the green and high-quality development of China’s ship repair industry.
In the first half of the year, facing a new round of boom in the global ship repair market, Huarun Dadong Dockyard made precise arrangements and took the initiative to achieve twice the result with half the effort. Through high-frequency market visits and in-depth development, Huarun Dadong Dockyard achieved a significant jump in the number of new ship repair orders, a year-on-year increase of 62.71%, breaking the historical peak.
Huarun Dadong Dockyard has successfully secured annual cooperation orders from multiple global renowned shipping companies and new client projects, with the order structure showing a trend of diversification and optimization. The core engine has been upgraded, and the proportion of high-value-added vessel types has significantly increased. Among the undertaken modification and conversion projects, the proportion of high-value-added and high-tech vessels such as large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers, and large container ships has significantly increased. The “double breakthrough” in both order volume and structure has become the core engine driving the growth of Huarun Dadong Dockyard, injecting strong momentum into the enterprise’s development.
Facing the explosive growth of orders, Huarun Dadong Dockyard has encountered unprecedented challenges in production organization, resource allocation, safety, and quality management. In response, the company has deeply integrated the concept of lean production into the core processes of dock period optimization, implemented scientific and lean management, and achieved efficient resource allocation. For the first time, it has realized a new unprecedented ship repair model and practice of “six ships in one dock simultaneously.” This milestone event marks that the company has reached a new height in terms of the turnover efficiency of core dock resources, parallel and refined management of multiple projects, process connection and construction efficiency improvement.
In the field of green and environmentally friendly ship repair, Huarun Dadong Dockyard has continued to increase its investment in technological innovation and successfully applied advanced technologies such as “electrostatic spraying” and “air-assisted spraying” on a large scale, which significantly improved the efficiency and quality of coating, greatly reduced paint loss and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) emissions, and effectively improved the working environment. It has helped Shanghai’s green ship repair technology to reach a new level and lead the new trend of sustainable development in the industry.
In the future, Huarun Dadong Dockyard will accelerate its strategic transformation towards high value-added, green and intelligent development, making continuous efforts in three dimensions: precise market positioning, strengthened lean project management, and continuous upgrading of new technologies and processes. It will go all out to invest in efficient production and green ship repair, consolidate its brand influence and core competitiveness in the international ship repair market, and make greater contributions to the high-quality development of China’s and even the global shipping industry.
