Fujian Shipbuilding Signs 28 Main Engine Contracts with CSE for Multi-Purpose Grain Carriers

Recently, Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding) and CSSC Engine Co.,Ltd. (CSE, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) held a signing ceremony in Fuzhou for the “28 Sets of Main Engines Customization Contract for multi-purpose grain carriers.

The 28 sets of marine main engines signed this time were tailor-made by CSE for Fujian Shipbuilding’s multi-purpose grain transport carriers. Previously, CSE had provided Fujian Shipbuilding with more than 100 sets of high-performance, reliable marine main engines for various types of ships.

On June 18, Fujian Shipbuilding announced that it had won a contract from COSCO Shipping Bulk to build 30 80,000 DWT multi-purpose grain carriers with a total value of approximately RMB 10.8 billion (approximately US$1.5 billion). According to previous reports, Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding will build the 30 80,000 DWT multi-purpose grain carriers. The cost of each ship is approximately RMB 360 million, and delivery is expected between 2027 and 2028.

This ship type was developed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), a subsidiary of CSSC. The ship has a total length of 230 meters, a beam of 32.26 meters, a draft of 21.00 meters and a service speed of 15.5 knots. These new ships have significantly improved cargo hold adaptability through optimized hull design, not only meeting grain loading requirements but also suitable for transporting containers, general cargo, engineering equipment, and other types of dry bulk cargo.
