CCCC Leads Milestone Achievement in Ultra-Large Green & Intelligent Dredging Vessel Technology

Recently, the super large scientific and technological project “Research on Core Technologies and Equipment for 30,000 m³ Ultra-Large Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger” led by CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited, CCCC) has passed the acceptance inspection.

The project was carried out under the close collaboration of CCCC Guangzhou Dredging, the National Engineering Research Center of Dredging, the Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Guangzhou Branch of China Classification Society, and Zhenhua Offshore Engineering, bringing together the core teams and top R&D resources in China’s dredging vessel field.

The project conducts research through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and physical model test. Adopting a full-chain model of “ship type design – equipment selection – marine power – structural analysis – draught marking – overall ship construction”, the project independently developed the first 30,000m³ hopper capacity trailing suction hopper dredger in China.

The project demonstrated and proposed a system scheme for applying methanol dual-fuel power to ultra-large trailing suction hopper dredger, and constructed a high-order “dredging-navigation integration” system based on collaborative control of dredging operations, navigation control and safety interlocking. It established a comprehensive energy efficiency index evaluation system suitable for ultra-large trailing suction hopper dredgers, and developed an intelligent recognition algorithm for process and timing based on clustering of ship operation behaviors.

This project first proposed the concept of dual operation draught marking for trailing suction hopper dredgers, solving the draught marking problem for multi-nautical area operations of such dredgers. At present, the project achievements have been successfully applied in the construction of 30,000m³ hopper capacity trailing suction hopper dredgers.

At the acceptance meeting, the expert group highly praised and affirmed the main innovative achievements of the project.

This project fills the technical gap in China’s independent research and development, design and construction of 30,000m³ capacity bucket suction dredgers. It is of milestone significance for the realization of domestic production of high-end dredging equipment. It is a typical case of the green and intelligent development of China’s high-tech engineering vessels, and will provide strong support for CCCC to lead the development and improvement of high-end equipment in the dredging field.
