Seatrade, the world’s largest refrigerated ship operator, returns to Chinese shipyards to order new ships.
According to TradeWinds, Seatrade has ordered 2+6 2800TEU container ships from Huanghai Shipbuilding. If the order is confirmed, it will be another cooperation between Seatrade and Huanghai Shipbuilding in the field of container ships.
The new ships are expected to be delivered in 2027, with the value of the order undisclosed. Upon completion and delivery, they will be the largest container ships in Seatrade’s fleet, with outstanding refrigeration capabilities, each equipped with more than 10,000 refrigerated container power outlets.
It is reported that Seatrade has previously ordered six 1,800 TEU container ships from Huanghai Shipbuilding. On March 20, 2024, the first ship in the series of six 1,800 TEU container ships, the “SEATRADE CHILE,” was successfully delivered by Huanghai Shipbuilding. Subsequent ships will be equipped with AMP medium-voltage shore power, deck cranes, etc.
So far this year, including the latest order, Huanghai Shipbuilding has secured orders for 7+8 new ships, with the remaining orders comprising four 1,800 TEU container ships for SITC International Holdings and one 7,800 DWT electric/ammonia hybrid self-unloading general cargo ship for Norway’s Skarv Shipping.
According to its official website, Huanghai Shipbuilding was founded in 1944. In recent years, the company has actively responded to the national “maritime power” strategy, focusing on structural adjustment and product transformation, has carved out a development path in the fields of large ro-pax vessels, passenger-cargo ships, multi-purpose heavy-lift ships, and large ocean-going fishing vessels.
