On May 15, CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) signed and delivered the second 49,500 DWT methanol dual-fuel oil tanker, named “ECOMAR GUYENNE,” for ECOMAR, a joint venture established by Denmark’s HAFNIA and France’s SOCATRA. The vessel was completed four months ahead of the contract schedule, setting a new record for the dock period of methanol dual-fuel MR tankers at GSI. It also marks a new breakthrough in China’s high-end shipbuilding technology.
It is understood that this type of vessel integrates a number of industry-first technologies: it is equipped with the methanol supply unit independently developed by GSI, breaking through the bottleneck of localization of core equipment; it is equipped with the first domestically produced methanol main engine, realizing independent control of power equipment.
The power system innovatively adopts permanent magnet shaft generator and shaft generator single-engine operation mode, which dramatically reduces the energy consumption and carbon emission, and becomes a benchmark ship type for global green shipping. The project is based on GSI’s mature MR standard ship type platform, which combines economy, safety and intelligence, and has remarkable market competitiveness.
The successful delivery of this project highlights China’s technological discourse in the field of global green shipbuilding. GSI will continue to deepen technological innovation and management change to provide more intelligent and efficient ship solutions for global customers and promote the sustainable development of the shipping industry.
