Changhong International Kicks Off Construction of MSC’s 10,300 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ship

On May 8, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (Changhong International) kicked off the construction of the third 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship (Hull:CHB2039) for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in the smart workshop.

It is reported that the project is a new generation of 10,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship jointly developed by Changhong International and CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC), with fully shared intellectual property rights. This ship type is also the largest container ship that can enter the Black Sea through the Turkish Straits.

Classed by DNV, the ship has an overall length of 299.95 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a structural draft of 17.5 meters and a design speed of 20 knots. This type of ship adopts a double-island layout, and its optimized line design matches the shipowner’s multi-objective operation plan. It has excellent performance and core technical features such as high speed and low fuel consumption.

Meanwhile, it is equipped with the largest C-type LNG fuel storage tank of its class. The cruising range of both LNG mode and fuel mode can meet the single round-trip requirements of the classic China-Europe or China-US routes, ensuring the flexibility of the shipowner’s operation plan. It has the characteristics of cleanness, environmental protection and low carbon emissions.

The EEDI energy efficiency design index is about 50% lower than the stringent Phase III emission baseline of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), far ahead of similar ships on the market.
