PIL’s Green Fleet Expands with Yangzijiang-Built LNG-Powered 8200TEU ‘KOTA OASIS’

On May 7, the “KOTA OASIS”, the first 8200TEU membrane-type LNG dual-fuel container ship built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s New Yangzi Shipbuilding for Singapore Pacific International Lines (PIL), was delivered for operation.

It is reported that “KOTA OASIS” is the first of four 8200TEU membrane LNG dual-fuel container ships “O-class” series built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group for PIL. Jointly developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, the ship is flexible in operation, capable of taking care of both feeder routes and ocean routes, and its performance indexes such as sailing speed, deadweight, and number of heavy containers are all better than those required in the contract.

The total length of this type of ship is 260.0 meters, the beam is 45.6 meters, and the maximum container capacity is 8350TEU. The cargo hold structure, hatch cover and lashing bridge adopt an integrated design, which enables refrigerated containers, dangerous goods containers, standard containers and high containers to be loaded in any combination without losing container space.

Besides being LNG powered, PIL’s “O” Class ships are capable of using greener bio-methane fuels and also equipped with Win-GD’s XDF engines with iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) which significantly reduce methane emissions. In addition, PIL’s “O” Class vessels are also equipped with ammonia intermediate-ready fuel tanks.

Kota Oasis will be PIL’s fifth LNG-powered vessel to be delivered, joining PIL’s four 14,000 TEU LNG ships delivered since last year. PIL has another 13 LNG dual-fuel ships on order to be delivered over the next few years.

It is worth mentioning that this ship type is the first batch of ships carrying GTT membrane tanks in the history of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s container ship construction, and as the first domestic private shipbuilding enterprise cooperating with GTT of France, it carries MARK Ⅲ membrane type containment system. The evaporation rate of LNG loaded by this system is lower, and the structural weight of the whole tank is lower than that of the conventional B cabins and C tanks.

The “KOTA OASIS” was named on April 25 and the delivery documents were signed on April 30.
