Greek owner Sea World Management and Trading, controlled by the Laliotis family, has ordered two 50,000 dwt MR product tankers from South Korean mid-sized shipyard K Shipbuilding, according to shipbroker sources.
The newbuilding unit cost is in the range of US$50 million to US$51 million and the total value of the 2 newbuildings is in the range of US$100 million to US$102 million, to be delivered in the first half of 2027.
It is worth noting that this order marks Sea World Management and Trading’s return to South Korea to build new oil tankers after an absence of 17 years.
Not long ago, Nicholas Notias’ dry bulk owner SteelShips has also ordered two 50,000 dwt MR product tankers from K Shipbuilding, which are expected to be delivered in 2027. The new vessels, with a unit price of about US$46.3 million, are said to be capable of running on LNG and methanol fuel.
