HD KSOE inks for four container ships with an Asian shipping company

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced on Sept. 27 that it has signed a contract for the construction of four container ships with an Asian shipping company. The total value of the order is KRW 674.6 billion (US$511.3 million) and the new shipbuildings will be built by HD Hyundai Samho with delivery expected in May 2027.

This is the second container ship order announced by HD KSOE in September. On September 25, the shipbuilder announced that it had signed a contract with a European shipping company for the construction of six medium-sized container ships, with a total order value of KRW 403.9 billion (US$303.7 million). The new shipbuildings will be built by HD Hyundai Mipo and are expected to be delivered in August 2027.

Including the latest order, HD KSOE has taken orders for 160 new ships valued at approximately US$17.78 billion, achieving 131.7% of its annual order target of US$13.5 billion.

In terms of ship type, it includes 8 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 60 product tankers, 44 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carriers, 22 container ships, 1 very large ethane carrier (VLEC), 2 liquefied carbon dioxide carriers, 6 very large crude carriers (VLCC), 7 medium-sized crude carriers, 2 PCTCs, 2 LNG bunkering vessels, 1 Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), 1 offshore unit, and 4 specialty vessels.
