On July 12, Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group delivered the LNG dual-fuel 16,000TEU container ship “MSC SAVANNAH” built for Doun Kisen and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The seventh ship in the series, “MSC ALESSIA”, was delivered on June 28.
It is understood that this ship is the eighth ship in a series of 12 16,000TEU dual-fuel container ships built by Yangzijiang Group for shipowner MSC. Like the sixth ship delivered previously, it is also equipped with a wind deflector device, which can effectively reduce the wind resistance of the ship during sailing, reduce carbon emissions by reducing fuel consumption, and help further realize green and efficient operations.
The ship is approximately 366 meters long, 51 meters wide, 30.2 meters deep, with a design draft of 14.5 meters and a structural draft of 17 meters. It is equipped with energy-saving devices such as shaft generators, air lubrication, rudder balls, and twisted wings. The dual-fuel main engine is equipped with ECOEGR optimization, which not only meets Tier III emission standards but also further reduces fuel consumption.
The ship was commenced construction in mid-May 2024, laid keel in late October, launched in mid-March 2025, and successfully completed sea trials in late June 2025, with all test results meeting design specifications.
On July 10, Mr. CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, China Regional Manager of MSC, and Mr. Yang Xueyan, Assistant General Manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Industry Group and General Manager of Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, signed the delivery documents on behalf of both parties.
