China’s manned submersible Fendouzhe returns after seven deep-sea expedition

On May 5, from the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was informed that the research ship “Tansuo-2”, repaired by Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd. (GWS), a subsidiary of Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), completed seven deep-sea manned dives of the Fendouzhe (Striver) during its recent 14-day voyage.

Two of the dives were more than 7,700 meters deep, with a maximum depth of 7,735.9 meters, and in the process successfully recovered the deep-sea lander that had conducted observations of the evolution of the whale drop system at a depth of 7,700 meters.

This is the first time for “Tansuo-2” to carry out ocean-going scientific research operation as the surface support mother ship of “Fendouzhe” after the completion and delivery of repair and maintenance in GWS on April 22nd, and the safe and efficient “ship-submarine” cooperation guarantees the successful completion of the mission of this voyage.

It is reported that GWS has carried out modifications to the research vessel “Tansuo-1” on four occasions and repairs to “Tansuo-2” on two occasions.
