Wuchang Shipbuilding kicks off construction of a methanol dual-fuel chemical tanker

On April 23rd, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co.,Ltd (“WS”), an affiliate of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, held a grand steel cutting ceremony for the first 25900DWT methanol dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker “Xingtong Haishi” built for Xingtong Shipping Co., Ltd.

As a global leading methanol dual-fuel chemical tanker, “Xingtong Haishi” is funded by Xingtong Haishi Shipping Co., Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xingtong Shipping, which is the first methanol dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker for Xingtong Shipping.

Classed by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS),this 25,900DWT stainless steel chemical tanker measures 158.98 meters in length, 27.00 meters in breadth, 14.20 meters in depth, with a tank capacity of 29,500 m³.

The chemical tanker is equipped with a MAN 5S50ME-C9.7-EcoEGR main engine and has a design speed of 14 knots, which meets the requirements of EEDI Stage 3. The main engine and genset are equipped with SCR system, and the emission meets IMO Tier III requirements. It has also been awarded ENVIRO, Methanol Fuel Ready Level 1C and EEDI-PH3 by ABS.

At the same time, “Xingtong Haishi” is equipped with advanced intelligent management systems, including intelligent energy efficiency management system, intelligent navigation system, intelligent monitoring system of engine room and cargo oil system, and behavior recognition system.

These systems can comprehensively collect data on ship navigation, equipment operation, energy consumption of key equipments and closed circuit television (CCTV), implement integrated processing of ship information and intelligent application based on big data, thus significantly improving the level of ship intelligence.

It is understood that the “Xingtong Haishi” is scheduled to be launched in March 2025, and the “Xingtong Haibao”, which was contracted together, will be set to built in July 2024, according to the report.
