New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Receives Order for Eight 6,800DWT Duplex Stainless Steel Methanol Dual Fuel Chemical Tankers

On April 23rd, Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd successfully undertook the construction project of eight 6,800 DWT duplex stainless steel electro-propulsion methanol dual-fuel chemical tankers. This project is the first time for the Danish shipowner SIMONSEN to place an order in China for the construction of vessels in nearly a hundred years since its establishment.

This contracted IMO II chemical tankers are designed by Shanghai Hanshun Ship Design Co., Ltd. The chemical tanker is equipped with 14 duplex stainless steel cargo holds, featuring wide cargo loadability, high navigability, green environmental protection, low manning, intelligent operation, and vibration and noise reduction.

For propulsion, it is equipped with three synchronous generator sets with a DC distribution system, and an electric propulsion unit equipped with two DC low-speed permanent magnet (PM) motors driving a fixed-pitch propeller to provide power. Meanwhile, a pair of methanol fuel tanks are installed to provide methanol fuel for the generators. In addition, the chemical tanker has a new independent energy storage unit, which ensures that it can still be safely navigated in the event of a power failure.

The methanol dual-fuel chemical tanker meets the low carbon emission requirements of IMO, and has been installed with methanol dual-fuel system, energy consumption control, energy storage battery and energy efficiency management system, etc., achieving new breakthroughs in the application of many green technologies onboard.

The Company Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co.,Ltd was established on March 31, 2023 with registered capital of 50 million CNY. Its main businesses include steel ship manufacturing for both civil and public service ship type, as well as bridge steel structure manufacturing, ship repair etc. Its major targeted segment market is Medium & Small vessels including but not limited liquid cargo ship, feeder container vessel, bulk carrier & multi-purpose vessel to be mostly focused as major product scope.

Data show that the new Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry currently handheld orders for more than 20 international high-end ships, the total amount of orders more than 2.6 billion, including chemical tankers, multi-purpose heavy lift vessels, new energy vessels and other ship types.

Established in 1931 by founder Martin Hjorth Simonsen, the shipowner, SIMONSEN, is a family-owned shipping company with all vessels under self-management. The shipowner said it will continue to optimize its fleet strategy and increase the number of self-managed vessels to meet the needs of industrial transportation.
