Changhong International Starts Construction of Eighth 11,400 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Boxship for OCEANROUTES

On October 15, Chinese shipbuilder Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd. (Changhong International) kicked off construction of the eighth 11,400-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship being built for OCEANROUTES.

This series of vessels was jointly developed and designed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC) and Zhoushan Changhong International. Classified by DNV, the vessels have an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters, a beam of 48.20 meters, and a depth of 27.0 meters. This project represents the largest single order for 10,000-TEU container ships ever secured by Zhoushan Changhong International.

This vessel design incorporates key technologies such as an optimized wide-beam hull form, the use of lightweight materials, and an integrated dual-fuel system. By employing various energy-saving solutions—including wind shields, energy-saving ducts, and high-efficiency twisted rudders—the design effectively reduces main engine fuel consumption.

It complies with the latest regulatory standards and achieves an energy-efficiency level more than 30% better than the Phase 3 requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). Having successfully overcome core challenges related to economic performance, weight reduction, system integration, and construction processes, this design serves as a significant industry benchmark.

This series consists of 18 vessels, with construction having commenced on 8 of them to date. Work on the first vessel began on March 30, 2026, while construction on the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh vessels commenced on April 10, May 15, June 10, July 10, August 21, and October 3, respectively.
