On October 16, Mawei Shipyard, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), delivered a 9,000 DWT specialized liquid cargo carrier built for COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers. The vessel was named the “Laizhou Bay.”

It is reported that the vessel has an overall length of 119.8 meters, a designed speed of 13 knots, and a range of 12,000 nautical miles. The vessel features a brand-new, low-drag hull line, combined with multiple energy-saving devices, placing its energy efficiency and emission reduction levels at the forefront of the industry and enabling it to meet the IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standards. The cargo holds are specially designed to safely carry a variety of liquid cargoes, including asphalt, refined oil products with a flash point greater than 60°C, and Class II chemicals, fully meeting the diverse needs of customers.
Equipped with advanced navigation and digital monitoring systems, the new vessel significantly enhances safety management and operational efficiency. It is a modern specialty vessel featuring advanced technology and meeting stringent environmental standards. The vessel is equipped with three major categories of digital systems—safety intelligence, vessel intelligence, and crew intelligence—and has been awarded multiple additional marks by the China Classification Society, including those for digital delivery, low noise, biodiesel fuel, and smart energy efficiency.
This vessel is the fourth in a series of 9,000 DWT specialty liquid cargo ships built through a collaboration between Fujian Shipbuilding and COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers. Previously, the “Qinzhou Bay,” “Fuzhou Bay,” and “Quanzhou Bay” vessels in this series were delivered consecutively within a year.
