Bronnbat Nord, a Norwegian aquaculture vessel operator, has placed an order with the Spanish shipyard Zamakona Ship Yard for a 5,000 m³ battery-hybrid wellboat. The total investment for the project is approximately 1 billion Norwegian kroner (about $110 million), and delivery is scheduled for 2029.
This new vessel measures 86.80 m in length overall and offers a cargo capacity of 5,000 m³. It features battery-hybrid propulsion and shore power compliant with the latest standards, along with an advanced energy recovery system. The vessel provides a wide range of treatment options, including freshwater, thermal and mechanical treatment, as well as onboard freshwater production for fish treatment. Designed by NSK Ship Design in Harstad, it combines innovative technology with efficient and sustainable marine operations.
Following delivery, the new vessel is primarily used for fish processing and loading/unloading, while also undertaking tasks typical of other live-fish carriers, including the transport of juvenile fish and fish destined for harvest.
Bronnbat Nord stated that the new vessel design is an upgraded version of the “Caspian”, a 2,800-cubic-meter hybrid wellboat built and delivered by Zamakona Yards in 2024. In comparison, the new vessel features an additional 2,200 cubic meters of live fish hold capacity.
According to reports, Zamakona Ship Yard, a long-established shipyard in northern Spain, is a leading European builder of wellboats and specializes in the repair and construction of specialized vessels.
