France-based GTT recently announced that GTT Energy, a subsidiary of the group specializing in building containment and energy management systems, has signed a contract with Hudong-Zhonghua for the design of liquid cargo tanks for one LNG carrier. The order will be recorded in the third quarter of 2026.
This new vessel was ordered by Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC Berhad). With a cargo capacity of 18,700 cubic meters, it will be equipped with GTT’s proprietary Mark III membrane containment system. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2028.
As previously reported, Hudong-Zhonghua signed a contract with MISC Berhad in August 2026 to build one 18,700 cubic meter LNG carrier. This marks the shipyard’s first order for a membrane-type LNG carrier of this size class.
Hudong-Zhonghua stated that this 18,700 cubic meter LNG carrier—independently developed by the company—is China’s first small-scale LNG vessel to utilize membrane-type containment system technology. It features a compact, highly efficient layout, flexible ship-to-shore compatibility, and excellent cryogenic insulation performance.
