On September 16, Belgian shipowner Transpetrol announced that it had ordered two 75,000 DWT LR1 tankers from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, with deliveries expected in the first and second quarters of 2030. The specific value of the order was not disclosed.
According to the announcement, the new vessels are equipped with a full suite of energy-saving features that ensure safe and efficient operation while minimizing fuel consumption.
This marks the second order announced by Transpetrol this year. In March, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate shipbuilding holding company of HD Hyundai, announced a contract with Transpetrol for two Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs). To be built by HD Hyundai Samho, the order is valued at approximately $240 million in total (about $120 million per vessel), with deliveries scheduled to take place by the second half of 2028.
Transpetrol stated that these four new vessels are part of its fleet renewal program, aimed at ensuring the continued operation of a modern, safe, and efficient fleet in the coming years.
Regarding the shipbuilder, as of August 7, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding held an orderbook totaling 256 vessels valued at $22.4 billion, with delivery schedules extending as far as 2030.
