Recently, the offshore business of Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a series of major contracts.
On September 9, L&T announced via its official website that its oil and gas subsidiary, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore (LTEH Offshore), had been awarded a major offshore contract by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to provide services for a project development off India’s west coast.
L&T did not disclose the specific contract price, describing it only as “large”; in accordance with the company’s standard classification, this indicates a value in the range of $500 million to $1 billion.
Under the contract, LTEH Offshore will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) of the Ratna–I (ADR I) and NLM-14 projects off the west coast of India. The scope of work includes the construction of three new wellhead platforms, one riser platform, multiple sections of subsea pipelines and subsea cables, as well as the modification and expansion of existing offshore facilities.
The ADR-I and NLM-14 development projects off India’s west coast represent a significant addition to the country’s offshore energy infrastructure; they aim to boost production and support the continued development of ONGC’s offshore assets in the region.
LTEH Offshore has recently secured multiple offshore contracts, with orders totaling several billion dollars.
On August 4, ADNOC Offshore awarded LTEH Offshore an offshore engineering contract worth over $1.8 billion. The project will be executed through a consortium led by L&T and will involve the development of multiple offshore oil and gas facilities. Under the contract, LTEH Offshore will be responsible for the EPCIC turnkey work on ADNOC Offshore’s large-scale offshore projects in the Middle East, as well as the upgrading and retrofitting of existing offshore facilities.
On August 17, L&T Offshore signed an “ultra-large” offshore contract with a Middle Eastern client for the development and construction of multiple offshore facilities; on the same day, the company secured a “large” offshore contract from India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), covering a pipeline replacement project (PRP-X) and a wellhead platform project off India’s west coast. Both contracts fall within the $500 million to $1 billion value range.
Larsen & Toubro was established in 1938 and operates in over 50 countries worldwide, with a workforce exceeding 120,000 employees. Its offshore operations are primarily managed by LTEH Offshore, which operates a fleet of various offshore vessels. The company is the only domestic enterprise in India capable of delivering the full EPCIC value chain for offshore oil and gas projects.
