On August 19, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding officially signed a contract with Hong Kong-based ASL Shipping Limited for the construction of two “Honghu” 5,300 TEU container ships, with an option for two additional vessels.
The “Honghu” 5300 TEU container ship covered by this contract is a benchmark product in the “Honghu” series of medium-sized container ships independently developed by Huangpu Wenchong. Measuring 235 meters in length and 37.5 meters in breadth, the vessel has a deadweight of approximately 71,500 tonnes. The design incorporates multiple rounds of hull line optimization, an integrated design combining high-efficiency propellers and rudders with energy-saving devices, and meticulous overall layout planning; consequently, the vessel boasts advantages such as high container capacity, operational flexibility, high speed, and eco-friendliness.
Hong Kong-based ASL Shipping is a professional international container liner operator with routes covering markets in China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East. Huangpu Wenchong and ASL Shipping share a solid foundation of cooperation, having previously collaborated on the delivery of two 1,900 TEU and four 1,600 TEU container ships.
Since the “Honghu” 5,300 TEU container ship was launched to the market in 2024, Huangpu Wenchong has secured batch orders from multiple leading domestic and international shipowners—including TS Lines—bringing the total number of orders received to 17 to date.
This marks the second container ship order announced by Huangpu Wenchong this month.
In early August, Huangpu Wenchong announced the signing of a contract with the South Korean shipowner CK Line to build two 6,400 TEU container ships, with an option for two additional vessels; this brings the shipyard’s total orders for 6,000 TEU-class medium-sized container ships to 26.
Huangpu Wenchong stated that the 6,400 TEU container ship was designed by the Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC). The vessel has an overall length of 240 meters, a molded breadth of 42.8 meters, a deadweight of approximately 80,310 tonnes, and a standard capacity of 6,406 TEU, including 1,150 reefer slots. It offers advantages such as high cargo capacity, low transport cost per unit, operational flexibility, high speed, and outstanding environmental performance.
Currently, Huangpu Wenchong continues to refine its container ship product portfolio, establishing a lineup that covers key vessel sizes—including 1,900 TEU, 3,000 TEU, 4,300 TEU, 5,300 TEU, and 6,400 TEU models—and achieving volume orders.
