Singapore’s emerging chemical tanker owner MAC Shipping has once again selected a Chinese shipyard, placing an order for four chemical tankers.

According to shipbrokers, the owner has signed a contract with Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding to build four 29,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, with delivery expected in 2029. Specific pricing details have not been disclosed.
This transaction marks a significant step for MAC Shipping in expanding into the stainless-steel chemical tanker sector. In November 2024, the shipowner announced an order for four 25,900 DWT stainless-steel chemical tankers from New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry—MAC Shipping’s first newbuilding project—with a unit cost of approximately US$50 million and deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026.
Established in 2021, MAC Shipping initially operated bulk carriers before expanding its business and shifting its focus to the chemical tanker sector in 2022.
The company’s latest fleet list shows that it currently operates only two 20,000 DWT stainless-steel chemical tankers: the “Mac London” (built in 2003) and the “Mac Tokyo” (built in 2006). Two older vessels built in 2001—the “Mac Jakarta” and “Mac Singapore”—have been sold.
With the finalization of orders at Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding, MAC Shipping’s total orderbook for newbuild chemical tankers has reached eight vessels.
