GTT announces that it has received, in the second quarter of 2026, an order from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for the tank design of three new Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers, on behalf of Bonny Gas Transport, Nigeria LNG’s shipping arm.

GTT will design the cryogenic tanks of the vessels, each offering a total capacity of 174,000 m3. The tanks will be fitted with the NO96 Super+ membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT.
Delivery of the vessels is expected between the second and third quarters of 2029.
This batch of new vessels was ordered by Nigeria LNG through its shipping subsidiary, Bonny Gas Transport (BGT).
Reportedly, the collaboration between BGT and Hudong-Zhonghua began in December 2025, when the two parties signed contracts for the construction of a total of six 174,000 m3 LNG carriers (in a “3+3” arrangement), marking the first partnership between China and Africa in the field of LNG carrier construction. In June 2026, BGT placed a follow-up order with Hudong-Zhonghua for another three 174,000 m3 LNG carriers. Upon delivery, all six new vessels are to be chartered to Nigeria LNG on a long-term basis.
This type of LNG carrier is the fifth-generation “Changheng Series” LNG carrier independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua. The vessel is equipped with a number of low-carbon and energy-saving technologies and has the characteristics of low overall energy consumption, good low-temperature performance, strong cargo carrying capacity, and clever control, operation and maintenance.
