ASRY Delivers 200th Offshore Drilling Rig Project with VALARIS 250 “Bob Palmer”

Recently, Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) successfully delivered the VALARIS 250 “Bob Palmer” offshore drilling rig, marking the completion of the shipyard’s 200th offshore drilling rig project.

Reportedly, the Bob Palmer, which was recently delivered, is a “Gorilla”-class offshore drilling rig—considered one of the largest offshore drilling rig designs in the world—and there are currently only a handful of such rigs in operation globally. The project has achieved a cumulative total of over 700,000 accident-free man-hours.

ASRY stated that Bob Palmer delivered on this occasion is one of the major offshore drilling platform repair and maintenance projects the shipyard has undertaken in recent years, and the project is highly complex in terms of both scale and scope of work.

Record shows that ASRY is a leading ship repair and manufacturing facility in the Arabian Gulf region. Established in Bahrain in 1977, the yard operates in four major areas: ship repair and conversion, drilling rig repair and conversion, naval vessel repair and conversion, and manufacturing and engineering. The yard features a 500,000-ton dry dock; two floating docks, measuring 252 meters and 227 meters in length, respectively; 15 repair berths with a total length of approximately 5,000 meters; over 250,000 square meters of construction area; and a full range of workshops and service centers.

Currently, ASRY is collaborating with the Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri. The two parties will jointly evaluate a range of shipbuilding opportunities, including the design and construction of surface warships up to 80 meters in length for the Bahrain Navy and Coast Guard; the development and construction of offshore support vessels of a similar size; and the pursuit of ship export orders in the Gulf region.
