COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) Delivers Final 16,000 TEU Methanol-Fueled Boxship “COSCO Shipping Lily

On June 1, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) officially delivered the 16,000 TEU methanol-fueled dual-fuel container ship “COSCO Shipping Lily,” built for COSCO Shipping Lines. With this delivery, all four vessels in the series have now been delivered.

This series of vessels has an overall length of 366 meters and a beam of 51 meters, with a container capacity of 16,136 TEUs. They reduce carbon emissions by approximately 8.9% compared to conventionally powered ships. Equipped with an intelligent central control system, they enable fully automated management of the entire vessel operation process.

The vessel is equipped with the world’s first domestically produced WinGD methanol-dual-fuel main engine, along with a methanol-dual-fuel generator and a marine dual-fuel boiler. The “pin” formation layout of the methanol tanks optimizes space utilization, while the intelligent ship control system enhances the vessel’s level of automation. Compared to traditional energy sources, each vessel can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 120,000 metric tons annually, with an EEDI that is more than 50% better than the baseline.

This series of vessels marks three historic “firsts” in China: the first methanol-dual-fuel container ship ordered by a domestic shipowner, the first methanol-dual-fuel container ship delivered by a domestic shipyard, and the first practical application of a domestically produced methanol-fueled main engine on a commercial vessel.
