New Yangzi Shipbuilding Delivers Second 9,000 TEU Methanol-Fueled Boxship to Maersk

On May 24, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s subsidiary, New Yangzi Shipbuilding, delivered the “TAURANGA MÆRSK,” the second 9,000 TEU methanol-fueled container ship built for the shipowner Maersk, which has now entered service.

The vessel is the second of a series of six 9,000-TEU methanol-dual-fuel container ships built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for Maersk. Construction began in May 2025, and after a build period of more than 370 days, the vessel was completed and delivered 134 days ahead of the contractual delivery date.

This series represents the largest methanol-fueled vessel project in Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s history. The first vessel, the “Tangier Mærsk,” was delivered in February of this year at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s shipyard in Jingjiang, China. Three more new vessels are scheduled for delivery this year, with the final one slated for delivery in early 2027.

On the morning of May 19, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and the shipowner, Maersk, jointly held a naming ceremony for the new vessel, during which Ms. Linda Wisthus christened the vessel “TAURANGA MÆRSK.”
