On April 27, CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) and Chinese Maritime Transport Ltd., signed a contract for the construction of two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers.

The 210,000 DWT bulk carrier covered by this contract is the fifth-generation “Polaris” flagship model independently developed by Beihai Shipbuilding, representing the current global state-of-the-art in green, smart, and efficient large bulk carriers. The vessel has an overall length of 300.00 meters, a beam of 50.00 meters, a depth of 25.20 meters, and a structural draft of 18.50 meters.
Through optimized hull lines, lightweight construction, and the installation of high-efficiency energy-saving equipment, this generation of vessels achieves a propulsion efficiency increase of over 6% compared to the previous generation. Additionally, the installation of an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) enables sulfur oxide emissions reduction, marking a dual breakthrough in both efficiency and environmental protection.

Since the two parties began collaborating in 2013, Beihai Shipbuilding has delivered several large bulk carriers to Chinese Maritime Transport. Thanks to the vessels’ outstanding performance and operational efficiency, they have earned high praise from the shipowner and widespread recognition in the market.
In the second half of 2025, the two parties reached an agreement in principle for the construction of four 210,000 DWT bulk carriers, with contracts for the first two vessels having come into effect at the end of last year. The signing of the contracts for the remaining two vessels not only demonstrates Chinese Maritime Transport’s full confidence in Beihai Shipbuilding’s technical expertise and delivery capabilities but also marks a solid step forward in the strategic partnership between the two parties.
As a long-established and renowned shipping company, Chinese Maritime Transport has been deeply rooted in the global dry bulk shipping market for decades and is renowned in the industry for its sound management and high-quality services.
Beihai Shipbuilding remains committed to focusing on the market for its core vessel types and has built and delivered over 100 large bulk carriers of various types. Following this contract signing, its order book now stands at 93 vessels, The order book includes mainstream vessel types such as large bulk carriers, large dry cargo ships, ultra-large ore carriers, VLCCs, and Suezmax tankers, with a total deadweight tonnage of nearly 22 million DWT, further consolidating the company’s leading position in the global large bulk carrier construction sector.
