According to the official WeChat account of Shishi Dingsheng Shipping Co., Ltd., on April 15, Tianjin Guanyuan Shipping Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Guanhang Shipping Co., Ltd. signed a construction contract with Taizhou Zhonghang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Zhonghang Shipbuilding) for two 114,000 DWT LR2 product/crude oil tankers, which are expected to be delivered in March and June 2029, respectively.
The new vessels are designed with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a reserve, fully meeting the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards and EEDI Phase III energy efficiency requirements, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions and operating costs.
Established in March 2016, Shishi Dingsheng Shipping primarily engages in domestic coastal bulk cargo transportation, ship management, and international shipping agency services, and has been developing in the shipping industry for 10 years.
Since its establishment, the company has purchased and built a total of 16 modern bulk carriers, of which 1 was leased and 15 were built independently. Wuhu Shipyard, Xindayang Shipbuilding, Zhonghang Shipbuilding, Zhejiang Zhenxing Shipyard and Nantong Yahua Shipyard have each undertaken the construction of 4, 3, 6, 1 and 1 ships respectively, with specifications ranging from 40,000 to 80,000 deadweight tons.
This order for two LR2 oil tankers from Zhonghang Shipbuilding is an important step for Shishi Dingsheng Shipping in its efforts to diversify its business, expanding from the domestic bulk cargo transportation sector to the global oil tanker transportation market. In June 2024, Shishi Dingsheng Shipping first entered the oil tanker market by ordering two 50,000-ton MR type product oil tankers from Zhonghang Shipbuilding. One of them was delivered in 2025, and the other is expected to be put into operation in the second half of 2026.
According to available information, Taizhou Zhonghang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (formerly Taizhou Zhonghang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.) is the new factory area of Taizhou Kouan shipbuilding Co., Ltd. It is a private shipbuilding enterprise with a shipyard covering an area of nearly 1 million square meters. It has the capability to build various types of ships under 200,000 tons and heavy steel structures. It can build container ships, bulk carriers, passenger ro-ro ships, oil tankers and other ship types. It is one of the backbone enterprises of Taizhou National Shipbuilding Export Base.
