In the first quarter of 2026, above-scale shipbuilding enterprises in Fujian Province, China, delivered an impressive business performance, with multiple core indicators including output value, shipbuilding, ship repair and exports all achieving strong growth.

According to statistics from Fujian Province’s shipbuilding industry, in the first quarter of 2026, shipbuilding enterprises in Fujian Province with annual output value above above-scale achieved a cumulative industrial output value of 5.26402 billion yuan (approximately $772 million), representing a year-on-year increase of 36.12%. This growth rate marked a record high for the same period in recent years. Export output value for the quarter reached 3.67062 billion yuan (approximately $538 million), up 15.09% year-on-year, with high-end vessels showing steady and robust growth in overseas markets.
In the first quarter, 109 vessels were completed and delivered, representing a year-over-year increase of 10.10%; a total of 242 vessels of various types underwent repairs, marking a year-over-year increase of 15.24%.
Currently, leading shipbuilders in Fujian Province have a robust order book, with state-owned shipbuilders and key private enterprises operating at full capacity, driving coordinated progress across the entire industry chain.
The proportion of high-value-added vessel types continues to rise, forming a comprehensive product portfolio that spans multiple sectors, including deep-sea shipping, offshore engineering, green energy, marine fisheries, and marine tourism and leisure. Currently, shipbuilders in Fujian are capable of independently constructing a wide range of high-tech, eco-friendly vessels, including LNG-dual-fuel car carriers, a series of high-end oil and chemical tankers, combined bulk and liquid carriers, integrated offshore engineering support vessels, specialized fish processing vessels, new energy workboats, and marine tourism vessels.
Since the start of the first quarter, major projects led by leading enterprises in Fujian Province have been launched in rapid succession, and several flagship projects have achieved significant milestones one after another.
Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding, successfully delivered a 7,500 CEU LNG dual-fuel car carrier built for an international shipowner four months ahead of schedule. During the same period, the shipbuilder completed the retrofit and delivery of the “Jianhang Lida,” successfully upgrading a conventional chemical tanker into a modern methanol bunkering vessel.
Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group’s subsidiaries, including Southeast Shipyard and Funing Heavy Industry, are making concerted efforts. Construction has begun on and deliveries are underway for 12,000 DWT self-propelled barges and 75-meter offshore platform supply vessels, while a 9,000 DWT special-purpose liquid cargo vessel has been successfully delivered.
Xiamen Shipbuilding Heavy Industry (XSI) maintained a tight yet orderly production schedule in the first quarter, with the 113,600 DWT LNG dual-fuel product tanker successfully kicking off construction, and the 5,500 CEU LNG dual-fuel car carrier reaching the key milestone of keel laying.
Based in the Eastern Fujian Shipbuilding Industrial Base, Funing Heavy Industry specializes in the research, development, and manufacturing of electric vessels and specialized offshore vessels, while steadily advancing projects involving various types of new energy workboats and small offshore engineering vessels.
Fujian Province’s shipbuilding industry continues to focus on traditional markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America, while actively expanding into emerging overseas markets. Key vessel types, including high-end oil and chemical tankers, car carriers, and bulk carriers, continue to secure long-term orders from international shipowners.
