On April 16, Sumec Marine, in collaboration with its subsidiary New Dayang Shipyard, successfully signed a contract with Seaspan, a world-leading shipowner, for the construction of four 65,200 DWT open top gantry crane multi-purpose vessels.

This vessel type features a gantry crane design that offers superior maneuverability and efficiency, combined with a box-type cargo hold structure that provides exceptional versatility. Sumec Marine will collaborate with leading design institutes and crane manufacturers to build this vessel, filling a gap in domestic shipbuilding that has existed for nearly three decades.
As the world’s largest independent container shipowner, Seaspan enjoys an outstanding reputation in the industry and has established deep-rooted partnerships with many of the world’s leading shipbuilders. This collaboration not only serves as a strong endorsement of Sumec’s comprehensive capabilities and shipbuilding expertise, but also represents a strategic decision by both parties in response to industry trends.
This collaboration holds profound significance for Sumec Marine, marking a crucial step toward breaking free from the constraints of conventional ship designs and expanding into high-value-added vessel types. It will not only enable the company to accumulate valuable technical expertise and enhance its overall technical capabilities but also further optimize its business structure and diversify its product portfolio.
This initiative will help Sumec Marine achieve dual improvements in brand standing and operational quality, establishing “Made in China” as the definitive choice for the world’s leading shipowners and laying a solid foundation for high-quality development.
