CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Launches PIL’s 13,000 TEU Dual-Fuel Container Vessel Five Days Ahead of Schedule

On April 13, CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. successfully launched the first vessel in a series of 13,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships, built for Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL), five days ahead of schedule with exceptional structural integrity.

The 13,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship is a new generation of eco-friendly container ships independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua. It is the first vessel to be equipped with a 12,000m³ Type B LNG fuel tank; the successful implementation of this key piece of equipment marks a significant breakthrough for the company in the construction of large LNG-powered dual-fuel container ships.

As the lead vessel in the 13,000 TEU dual-fuel series, the H1933A is the first Type B fuel tank container ship built at Hudong-Zhonghua’s Western Shipyard. With its launch, the structural acceptance inspection was successfully completed, achieving a record-high level of structural integrity.

It is reported that Pacific International Lines (PIL) placed an order with Hudong-Zhonghua in August 2024 for five 13,000-TEU LNG-powered dual-fuel container ships. In November of the same year, the two parties signed another contract for five 9,000-TEU LNG-powered dual-fuel container ships.

In early 2026, reports emerged that PIL had placed an order with Hudong-Zhonghua for four 13,000-TEU LNG-powered large container ships. With this order, the total number of new vessels ordered through the partnership between the two companies has exceeded 10.
