GSI Secures New Order for Two MR Tankers from L&B

On September 1, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), together with CSSC Trading, signed an additional order for two 49,500‑DWT chemical/product oil tankers with the well-known German shipowner LEONHARDT & BLUMBERG (L&B) in Hamburg, Germany. Mr. Xu Peng, Chairman of CSSC, Peng Yuanpu, Vice President of CSSC, and other leaders and guests witnessed the signing ceremony. On September 2, GSI completed the remote delivery of the 2nd 49,500‑DWT chemical/product oil tanker HANSA GENOA built for L&B.

This newly delivered vessel is the sister ship of HANSA GUANGZHOU, which was delivered in June. Both are new-generation MR-type tankers independently designed and built by GSI. The vessel has principal particulars of 183 m in overall length, 32 m in moulded breadth, 13.3 m in scantling draught.  It is methanol dual-fuel ready and equipped with eco-friendly desulfurization equipment. It fully meets the latest IMO Tier-III emission standards and reaches Phase-III energy efficiency requirements. With lower energy consumption, lighter weight and stronger adaptability, this ship type is one of the most advanced, greenest and most reliable vessels in the global shipping industry.

During the entire shipbuilding process, GSI project team implemented lean construction and refined management. Through early workflow planning and precise control of key project milestones, the construction progressed efficiently and systematically.Well-organized production procedures, rigorous quality control and reliable delivery performance fully demonstrate GSI’s mature strength in MR-type tanker construction. The outstanding project performance has earned high recognition and full trust from the shipowner, laying a solid foundation for L&B’s additional order placement.

This new order for two vessels further expands bilateral cooperation in this series of MR-type tankers. Since GSI and L&B launched their partnership in 2024, GSI has consistently delivered vessels with high quality and high efficiency. By honoring delivery commitments through reliable product performance and professional project management, GSI has further expanded overseas influence and enhanced the global reputation of China’s shipbuilding industry. The simultaneous completion of vessel delivery and new contract signing marks a double breakthrough. It fully reflects the shipowner’s recognition of GSI’s comprehensive strength, and serves as solid evidence of China shipbuilding’s steady progress toward high-end, green and intelligent development.
