On September 2 (local time), Chen Jie, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai, visited the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) booth at the 32nd Hamburg Maritime Exhibition (SMM). He witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for a new shipbuilding project involving the construction of 2+3 cruise ships of the 84,000 DWT between Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), and Norway’s Nor Cruises.
At the exhibition, Xu Peng visited the booths of CSSC and its partners, and attended the “China-Europe Maritime Forum,” an official event of the Hamburg Maritime Exhibition. Additionally, he delivered a keynote speech proposing key initiatives to the Chinese and European maritime communities—such as joining forces to drive joint innovation in green and smart technologies, deepening practical collaboration, and building an integrated development ecosystem. He affirmed that CSSC is committed to working with international partners to forge a new global maritime industry landscape characterized by greater stability, prosperity, and sustainability.
During this period, Xu Peng led a delegation to conduct high-level business talks and visit partners, including international shipowners, classification societies, and suppliers. The discussions covered a wide range of topics—such as trends in the international shipping market and the future evolution of vessel types—and resulted in a consensus to further deepen cooperation, thereby injecting new momentum into the continuous expansion of CSSC’s global network of partners.
As a key enterprise within CSSC, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding successfully built China’s first domestically produced large cruise ship Adora Magic City. In doing so, it captured what is known as the “brightest pearl in the crown” of the shipbuilding industry, achieving a historic breakthrough by taking the domestic large cruise ship sector from “zero to one.”
Construction of the second domestically built large cruise ship Adora Flora City, is currently accelerating, with delivery and entry into service scheduled for November 6.
In addition to international orders, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding signed a contract with China Tourism Group this year for the construction of two large cruise ships (plus an option for a third), with the first vessel expected to be delivered by the end of 2030.
