Alpha Gas Signs Multi-Year Charter with GAIL for LNG Carrier “Energy Fidelity” at High-$70,000 Daily Rate

Alpha Gas, a Greek shipping company owned by Anna Angelicoussis, has signed a multi-year charter agreement with GAIL, an Indian natural gas company, for a modern liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

Under the agreement, GAIL will charter a large LNG carrier owned by Alpha Gas named the “Energy Fidelity”. The vessel, built by HD Hyundai Samho in 2023, has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and is equipped with a two-stroke propulsion system, an air lubrication system, and shaft generators, all designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

The two parties involved did not disclose specific contract details; however, according to European shipbroking sources, the “Energy Fidelity” has secured a five-year time charter agreement at a daily rate in the high $70,000 range.

Alpha Gas stated: “The recently signed charter agreement reflects the strong partnership between the two companies, their shared vision, and their mutual commitment to supporting global energy security. The ‘Energy Fidelity’ will strengthen GAIL’s LNG fleet.”

Currently, Alpha Gas manages a fleet of 14 LNG carriers, including six vessels under construction. All active vessels in the fleet are LNG carriers, while the order book includes LNG carriers, very large ammonia carriers, and very large gas carriers.

Earlier this year, Alpha Gas placed an order with Hanwha Ocean for two LNG carriers, with each vessel costing approximately $249.4 million. Delivery to the shipowner is expected by June 2029. This marks Alpha Gas’s first order for LNG carriers since 2018.

According to reports, Anna Angelicoussis co-managed the family’s shipping fleet with her late brother, John Angelicoussis, until she founded her own group in 2001. The group initially focused on bulk carriers but later expanded into the tanker and LNG transport sectors.
