ZPMC Secures Contract for 10,000 m³ Self-Propelled Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger from CSCEC

On April 13, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) won the bid for the “Construction of a 10,000 m³ Self-Propelled Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger” project awarded by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

According to its official website, China State Construction Engineering Corporation is the sole platform company for hydraulic engineering operations under China State Construction. It was jointly established by China State Construction—the world’s largest comprehensive investment and construction group—and Shanghai International Port Group—the world’s largest port operator. The company traces its origins to the Shanghai Port Construction Engineering Team of the Ministry of Communications, which was established in the early years of the People’s Republic of China. It currently owns a fleet of pile-driving vessels, semi-submersible barges, crane ships, floating mixing vessels, sea barges, and tugboats, as well as supporting construction equipment for rail transit.

Founded in 1992, ZPMC is a state-controlled A- and B-share listed company. Its parent company is China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., and its core businesses include port machinery, offshore engineering equipment, and steel structures. The company operates 8 production bases and 119 global subsidiaries, and owns a fleet of 23 dedicated transport vessels. It is the world’s largest manufacturer of port machinery, a provider of automated terminal system solutions, a transporter of port machinery, and a globally renowned manufacturer of specialized engineering vessels and large-scale steel structures.

As a leading domestic construction base for ultra-large trailing suction hopper dredgers, ZPMC has delivered several major national projects, including the “Tongjun,” an ultra-large suction hopper dredger with a 35,000-cubic-meter hopper capacity, and possesses proven construction capabilities.

Meanwhile, ZPMC is building China’s first ultra-large self-propelled trailing suction hopper dredger with a 25,000 m³ capacity and distributed in-hold mud pumps, the “Xin Hai Jing 1,” which was launched on March 6, 2026. The company is also constructing the “Jun Guang,” China’s first-of-its-kind and Asia’s largest trailing suction hopper dredger, which was independently researched, designed, and built in China.

In terms of new ship orders, in early March, ZPMC announced the signing of a contract with CCCC Haifeng Wind Power Development for one 12,000 DWT cable-laying vessel. The vessel has a designed overall length of approximately 130 meters, a beam of approximately 38 meters, and a draft of approximately 9.6 meters. It is equipped with an advanced DP2 dynamic positioning system, capable of four-point anchorage positioning, and can operate in water depths of up to 200 meters.
