Chonghang Shipping and Ningbo Penghong Hold Signing Ceremony for 1,056-TEU Container Ship Construction Contract

On March 25, Grand Marine Shipping (Grand Marine) and Ningbo Penghong Shipbuilding Heavy Industry (Ningbo Penghong) held a signing ceremony for a contract to build a 1,056 TEU container ship. The new vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2027.

This order marks Grand Marine’s official entry into the shipping industry. As the first collaborative project between the two parties, this container ship model integrates the latest technological advancements from various sources, with a focus on increasing the capacity to 200 reefer containers while allowing for future expansion.

The GMS-VESSEL ONE platform, independently developed by Grand Marine, will provide integrated, end-to-end online operational support for this container ship project, covering design, supply chain management, construction supervision, and operational management.

Currently, Grand Marine is committed to fostering collaboration and enhancing the capabilities of the shipbuilding industry chain. By establishing the GMS Industrial Interconnection Platform and aiming to optimize the total cost of ownership, the company promotes end-to-end integration and collaboration across the industry chain. It has provided supply chain management services to three major state-owned enterprise groups and their suppliers.

Grand Marine is a key component of Grand Marine International’s industrial chain strategy. Based in Hong Kong, the company aims to empower shipyards, suppliers, and partners through a model of joint design, joint production, and joint operation. Guided by the collaborative shipbuilding philosophy of “co-building, co-creating, and sharing,” it will set sail alongside its ecosystem partners.

It is worth noting that Grand Marine’s container ship order is the first project signed by Ningbo Penghong following the successful introduction of a state-owned strategic investor, signaling that the shipyard is poised to enter a phase of rapid growth.

Ningbo Penghong operates two 100,000-ton dry docks, a 400-ton gantry crane, an 80,000-square-meter section workshop, and related supporting facilities. Its primary vessel types include various container ships ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 TEU, asphalt carriers, and 50,000-DWT MR-class product tankers. The company’s order book is currently filled through 2028.
