SCI Inks Contract with MDL for India’s First Methanol Dual-Fuel Platform Supply Vessel

March 19 — The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has signed a shipbuilding contract with the state-owned Indian shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) for one methanol dual-fuel Platform Supply Vessel (PSV).

The new vessel has a deadweight tonnage of 3,000 tons and, upon delivery, will become the first vessel in SCI’s fleet specifically designed to use alternative fuels, particularly green methanol.

SCI stated that this order for a dual-fuel vessel marks a key step forward in the modernization of its fleet and its commitment to sustainability.

According to records, MDL, India’s leading defense shipyard, was founded in 1774 and taken over by the Indian government in 1960. It is renowned for building warships, submarines, and destroyers for the Indian Navy, having delivered over 800 vessels to date.
