Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding Signs LOI for 10 Methanol-Electric Hybrid Vessels, Marking Milestone for Its First Commercialized Inland New Energy Vessel

On February 28, Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding successfully signed a letter of intent with a domestic client to build two alcohol-electric hybrid new energy vessels with an intent for follow-up cooperation on eight additional vessels of the same type.

This signing marks the first commercialization of Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding’s independently designed alcohol-electric hybrid inland waterway vessel, in addition to its two mature power systems of LNG and pure electric power. This further demonstrates the market’s deep recognition of its full-scenario customized R&D capabilities.

This signing marks the first market-ready milestone for Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding’s independently designed methanol-electric hybrid inland waterway vessel, in addition to its established LNG and pure electric power systems. This further demonstrates the company’s strong market recognition of its full-scenario customized R&D capabilities.

This vessel has an overall length of 73m, a beam of 13.76m, and a rated deadweight of 3000 tons. It is suitable for Class A and B inland waterway navigation areas and possesses core advantages such as low drag hull, high load capacity, high economy, and low noise and environmental friendliness, laying a solid technical foundation for the power system upgrade.

Simultaneously, this custom-developed methanol-electric range-extended hybrid system is specifically engineered for cross-waterway operations. Equipped with a 20 cubic meter methanol fuel tank and two 300kWh battery packs, it achieves an ultra-long range exceeding 1,200 kilometers. This system fully preserves the core design advantages of pure electric vessels while effectively addressing the range limitations of long-distance navigation for all-electric ships.

It is understood that the scale of this cooperation for 10 vessels stems from the dual core strengths of Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding: “mature platform + independent customization”. The company’s standardized ship models of the same series have passed the rigorous inspection of mass production and actual ship operation. The fully independent and controllable customization system can quickly respond to customers’ personalized operation needs, and realize customized upgrades on the mature ship model platform. This not only ensures the maturity and reliability of products, but also greatly shortens the product landing cycle.

The signing of this letter of intent represents a dual breakthrough for Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding in technological innovation and market expansion. It further enriches the company’s comprehensive portfolio of new energy vessel products across all scenarios and specifications, achieving full coverage of independent design and construction capabilities for multiple vessel types including LNG, pure electric, and methanol-electric hybrid vessels.
