Wan Hai Lines Finalizes Order for Six LNG-ready 6,000 TEU Container Vessels at Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding

On February 10, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, announced the successful signing of a contract with Wan Hai Lines for the construction of six 6,000 TEU container ships. This agreement marks a significant breakthrough for Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in developing new ship types.

It is understood that Wan Hai Lines was the first Taiwanese shipowner to cooperate with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. As early as 2018, the two parties successfully cooperated on a 2038TEU container ship project.

In December last year, Wan Hai Lines announced its decision to order six 6,000 TEU container ships from Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. This order has now been formally finalized. According to the announcement, these new ships feature LNG-ready design. Each ship is priced between $75.2 million and $82 million, with the total order valued at $451.2 million to $492 million. Delivery is expected before 2030.

The 6,000 TEU container ship contracted in this agreement was developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). This ship type features an overall length of 255 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a deadweight of approximately 76,500 tons. It complies with the latest environmental regulations, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III.

It’s worth mentioning that just last week (February 4th), Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding officially signed a newbuilding contract with another Taiwanese shipowner, Evergreen Marine Corporation, for 16 3000TEU container ships, with delivery expected between 2028 and 2030. This order sets a new record for the largest number of single-ship types ordered in Huangpu Wenchong’s history, once again demonstrating Huangpu Wenchong’s leading position in the feeder container ship sector.
